So Demetrius became king in the one hundred and sixty-seventh year: If translators followed the suggestion at 1Macc 10.67 by referring to Demetrius as “the son of King Demetrius, also named Demetrius,” they may render Demetrius became king as “Demetrius became King Demetrius the Second” or “Demetrius the Second became the uncontested king.” The one hundred and sixty-seventh year corresponds to 145 b.c. (see the comments on 1Macc 1.10).
