Good News Bible‘s verse number is misplaced for this verse; Revised Standard Version is correct.

They went to the king and said: As we can tell from what is said below, the speakers are the ungodly Israelites who had cast their lot with the Syrians. This accounts for the harsh tone they used in addressing the Syrian king. They went to Antioch to see him. The king was Antiochus~V. He would have been ten or eleven years old at that time. It will be helpful to identify the king; for example, Contemporary English Version begins this verse with “Together they went to Antiochus the Fifth and said.” This verse can be joined to the previous one by saying “21 … and together with some of the renegade Jews, 22 they went to the king and said…” (similarly Good News Bible).

How long will you fail to do justice and to avenge our brethren?: Good News Bible provides a good model here, but the idea of do justice can be more clearly expressed more clearly by saying “How long are you going to wait before you do the right thing and take revenge…?” Avenge may be rendered “pay back” or “get even with” (Contemporary English Version). This question is rhetorical and may be rendered as statements by saying “You have waited long enough! You must do the right thing by paying back those Jews for what they did to our countrymen.”
