Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 16:13

For his right hand that bends the bow is strong, and his arrows that he shoots are sharp and will not miss when they begin to be shot to the ends of the world: Compare 2 Sam 22.15; Job 6.4; Lam 2.4; 3.12-13. The conjunction For may be omitted (so Good News Bible, Contemporary English Version). For bow and arrows, see the comments on 2Esdras 16.7. Here are two possible models for this verse:

• He is like a strong man bending a bow with his right hand. His arrows are sharp, and when he begins to shoot them all over the world, none of them will miss.

• He is like a strong archer bending his bow with his right hand. His arrows are sharp and will not miss when he begins to shoot them to the ends of the world.
