Translation commentary on Ezekiel 39:13

All the people of the land will bury them: There will be so many dead bodies to bury that “Everyone in Israel” (New Living Translation) will become involved.

And it will redound to their honor may be rendered “and they will be honored for this” (Good News Translation, Contemporary English Version), “and it will bring them honor” (New Revised Standard Version), “and they will receive honor for this,” or “and people will praise them for what they did.”

On the day that I show my glory: See the comments on 28.22. God’s glory refers to his “transcendent splendor and majesty” (Block). Translators may render this clause as “when I show my great splendor” or even “when I show [people] how great and wonderful I am.” It would be misleading to translate glory in a way that implies that it refers to the glorious appearance of Jesus at the time of his second coming. Good News Translation interprets glory as referring to God’s “victory” over Gog. This is acceptable.

Says the Lord GOD: This formal declaration highlights again the importance of what God is saying (see Ezek 39.5).
