As for the word which you have spoken … we will not listen to you: Many translations understand from what follows that the people are not accepting that the word was from the LORD. Bible en français courant, for example, has “You claim to speak to us on behalf of the Lord, but we refuse to listen to you.” Other ways to render the verse are “Even though you say this to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you” (Traduction œcuménique de la Bible) and “What you have spoken to us as the word of the Lord, we will not hear!” (Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch). Good News Translation restructures the verse by (1) reversing the order of the two main clauses in this verse and (2) avoiding the unnatural expression As for the word which you have spoken to us.
