For the thought of line a, see 35.12a. The verb translated are my adversaries in line b is from satan, the same root from which the noun “satan” (adversary) is formed. Dahood retains the verb form and translates line b “(they) slander me when I seek their good,” a meaning expressed also by New Jerusalem Bible and New International Version. This is possible and brings the line more into harmony with the preceding one.
