Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 7:122

Or that the glory of the Most High will defend those who have led a pure life, but we have walked in the most wicked ways?: For God’s glory, see the comments on 2 Esd 3.19; for the Most High, see 2 Esd 3.3. Alternative models for this verse are:

• God Most High who is full of glory [or, glorious light] will protect those who have lived lives free of sin. But that will do us no good since we have lived lives full of sin.

• God Most High in all his glory [or, who is full of glory] will protect those who have lived righteously. But what does that matter if we have lived so sinfully?
