Judah, Judea

The name that is transliterated as “Judah” or “Judea” in English (referring to the son of Jacob, the tribe, and the territory) is translated in Spanish Sign Language as “lion” (referring to Genesis 49:9 and Revelation 5:5). Slept with his fathers: See the comments on 1 Kgs 1.21 and 2.10.

Was buried with his fathers: See the comments on 1 Kgs 14.31.

The city of David: See the comments on 1 Kgs 2.10.

Reigned in his stead: This is the same in Hebrew as the words translated “became king in his stead” in verse 15. In other languages it will be more natural to say something like “followed him as king.” See the comments on 1 Kgs 11.43.
