Translation commentary on Letter of Jeremiah 1:15

This is the first appearance of the refrain that will be found in some form in verses 23, 29, 40, 44, 52, 56, 65, and 69.

Therefore they evidently are not gods: Here the writer states that what he has just said about idols, in verses 8-15, proves that they are not gods; the various versions have a variety of ways to say this. The Revised Standard Version rendering sounds like the writer isn’t quite sure. Better translations are the following: “From this it is evident that they are not gods” (New Revised Standard Version, New Jerusalem Bible), “All of this proves that they are not gods” (Good News Translation), and “This shows they are not gods” (New English Bible).

For fear see the comments on verse 4.
