Translation commentary on Ezekiel 37:25

They shall dwell in the land where your fathers dwelt …: See the comments on 36.28. Fathers may be rendered “ancestors” (Good News Translation, Contemporary English Version). Here the land is described as that I gave to my servant Jacob. Jacob was the grandson of Abraham and God promised to give him and his descendants the land of Israel (see Gen 35.12). For my servant Jacob, see the comments on 28.25.

They and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there for ever: Not only the Israelites who were living at the time of Ezekiel, but their descendants for many generations would also live in the land of Israel. Contemporary English Version renders their children and their children’s children as “their descendants.” For children’s children, New Living Translation and New Century Version have “grandchildren,” but in this context it refers to generations of descendants. The Hebrew expression rendered for ever does not mean without end, but has the idea of going on and on into the distant future, longer than anyone can imagine.

And David my servant shall be their prince for ever: See the comments on the previous verse and 34.24.
