47and for the sacrifice of well-being, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Eliasaph son of Deuel.
The Hebrew qorbān (קָרְבָּן) originally means “that which is brought near.” Most English Bibles translate it as “offering.” The Hebraic English translation of Everett Fox uses near-offering and likewise the German translation by Buber-Rosenzweig has (the neologism) Darnahung.
On the sixth day Eliasaph the son of Deuel, the leader of the men of Gad …: Verses 42-47 are almost identical to verses 12-17 (see the comments there). For Eliasaph the son of Deuel, the leader of the men of Gad, see 1.14. The name Deuel is spelled “Reuel” in 2.14 (see the comments there).
